The Bathroom Makeover

When we bought our home a few months ago I knew there were two projects that needed tackling. And quick! The bathroom and the kitchen.

DSC_0006_0376The bathroom was fully carpeted. Carpet in a bathroom and a house full of boys DO NOT belong together.

September_0697 One morning I went into the bathroom and just started ripping off wallpaper. That would set the whole remodel/update into full swing.

We pulled the washer/dryer out of there together. Then I pulled out the cabinet that was to the right of the sink.

October_0524

I told Lineman I wanted some really neat, old looking fixtures. He found these while working out of town (because there is not much in the way of stores here).

October_0529

He even found all the matching pieces to coordinate. Yes, my toilet paper is folded into a point. My mom ran a bed and breakfast for 15 years, I guess some things wear off. Toilet paper holder had been a built in unit so I yanked it out and did a bit of sheet rock work to fix the hole there.

October_0530

I added some eucalyptus in a glass jar for some dimension.

October_0532

Added a little more depth with the grass.

October_0521

I found a light fixture that fit the look I was going for.

Then for the big project. Remember I drove all the way to my in-laws near Great Falls, 4 and a half hours away so I could get to a Home Depot. I picked up tile and all the tools needed to get the job done.

October_0520 I had lots of fun tiling. It’s not too hard but it does take days to get it done. I also painted the vanity “beautiful brown eyes” and I changed out the knobs and handles. The shower curtain is one I made a few years ago that matched pretty good.

October_0527 Then for fun I added just a little decorative tile. I think I could have used a bunch of these but they’re a bit pricey so I just added them in front of the tub.

October_0519

And Taaa Daaaa, the (almost) finished project. I have to say I am very proud of myself for accomplishing this. I just need to add some art to the walls and add some open shelves and a bench where the washer/dryer were at.

One more look at the “BEFORE” ……..

And the “AFTER”

It seems to me that the houses you grew up in were always under construction, with one project or another. I guess some of it rubbed off. FANTASTIC Job...

Lovely! We are starting some of our winter projects. We finally hung mirrors in our downstairs bathroom, and then we need to put trim and grout the tile. I will have to add a picture when it is all done. You have inspired me to get busy again. :)
I love remodeling projects. Also I think we might put an old timey sink in our downstairs mini kitchen. I like how yours turned out.

Carin said...

THANK YOU everyone! It was so much fun to accomplish!

The washer and dryer were a stacking pair that I sold. In the basement I have my front loads =)

Awesome!!! Today, during the snow storm...I told Michael, let's go up and gut the bathroom. We should have done it...but I don't know exactly what I want to do yet. You inspired me to get with it and just jump in...then it will get a start and finish! Yours looks awesome. I can't believe you did the tiling. WOW!!

I'm just gonna say 'Ditto' to what everyone else has said! Wow!

Oh Carin, that is amazing. What a wonderful job; it's hardly recognizable as the same space! I'm not showing this to Karl or he'll expect the same out of me! :)

I am so jealous... I've been bloghopping and I saw this and.... well, I would follow you but you may make me feel inadequate...

ok, I'll follow you anyway...

Awesome job!

I'm impressed, Carin! So this is what you do when you get quiet on the blog. :) You're quiet again this week... what are you up to now? Awesome job. I'm wanting to tile our small bathrooms but keep putting it off for fear that I'll rip out the carpet to find lots of repair work that needs done before I tile... dread.

Kat said...

This is amazing! I can not believe you did it on your own. I would never be brave enough to attempt tile work! I love your hardware. It is just what I would chose myself. Even your floral arrangement is just perfect. And yeah, what is with carpet in the bathroom? My mom's house has carpeted bathrooms. Get real! Have they ever heard that there is water in a bathroom?
