An early taste of winter

I woke up yesterday morning to a winter wonderland. It was just gorgeous. snow 3 The stillness, the quietness, the snow on the leaves and branches.

snow 2 We got about 5-6 inches and it just made my heart sing to see it.

Snow 1I’m pretty sure I’m safe to take down the hummingbird feeder now.

Deer 4I loved the look of the bright red crabapples against the white fresh snow. There’s someone else that really likes these crabapples…

Deer 3This little buck was pretty happy to be digging in the snow for the fallen crabapples.

Deer 1 This doe had other plans. Maybe she was too good for digging in the snow. Maybe she was too smart. Maybe she was out to teach that young buck something. She didn’t once dig her muzzle in the snow.

Deer 2She repeatedly stood on her two hind legs, reached up and grabbed for the crabapples. Sometimes she would get one, most times she just jerked the branch hard enough the crabapples came tumbling down and gently lay on the snow. That’s one smart doe.

I for one really enjoy winter but I know a lot of people don’t like winter one bit. But when your morning starts out like this one, how can you not enjoy the beauty of it?

Like it or not, winter…. she’s a coming!

What a beautiful day! I love the first "official" snowfall of the year and these pictures get me excited for that to happen.

And it is coming. . .I can feel it in my bones, plus it has been windy here all night.

Something is blowing in. . .

Gorgeous pictures... but I really can't believe it's that time already. The colors contrasts are beautiful.

This snow is all over the place we had 4.5 inches fall in MN as well. Sooo weird to have it before Halloween, just makes us want to go lock up in the house for the next 6 months....honestly!!!

It is beautiful but I'd like a couple more weeks of fall before the snow comes our way.

our snow didn't last: a little on the trees yet. I love snow. I don't care for the frigid temps. But when you live in WI.. what else can you expect?!

WOW! Absolutely beautiful! We maybe get a good snow like that once every 3-4 YEARS. I would love to wake up to that sight every now and then. :)

I love the look of winter but I hate being cold. Lucky for me we don't have snow yet so I can just enjoy it from your pictures.

I am not ready for the snow yet. I still haven't made it to the pumpkin patch. This Fall has been crazy. Beautiful pictures though and you are right...waking to that would be amazing.

Snow before Halloween, must be global warming...

Really, send some our way! No precip for at least 6 month (except for the an ocassional heavy fog).

As much as I hate winter your pictures were beautiful. I love the pictures of the berries.

I can't believe the boys didn't chase after the deer. lol

How pretty!!!! It looks very cold!!! I'm more of a summer person, but if it has to get cold, please let it snow!!!

Oh my goodness, beautiful! We don't have snow much around here in eastern North Carolina. When it does snow (even a dusting), business and schools close.

Your deer pics are wonderful, should enter them in a photo contest.

I totally agree, I love snow. We woke up to it on Saturday morning (Eastern Nebraksa)and it was like Christmas morning for the kids, they were so excited.

I wish I had the views of the deer out my window as you do, the picture are great!

I love the snow. It seems to be a bit scarce in these parts the last few winters. I could sit and stare out the window a whole morning just watching it. And the reds against the whites are striking.
