Deranged

Really, what kind of deranged person pulls this kind of stunt just days before Christmas?  Just days before company is coming to their house?

I decided on December 22 that I would strip wallpaper….

I began to strip the wallpaper down when I realized there was a slight problem….

The paint under the wallpaper was wanting to lift up.

December 144That’s a section where I already pulled the wallpaper down and then the bottom most layer of paint ( I’m pretty sure it’s just paint) wanted to lift off.  There was no way I could leave it.  It was bubbling up and would be obvious.   So I ripped and scraped all I could get off.  That left some very irregular patches and rough spots.  What could I do?

December 181 Well, being the deranged, insane person that I am,I went to town and bought a texturing gun.  Got the room all taped off, hooked up the air compressor and started spraying texture all over the poor abused wall.  On the 23 of December when most people are baking cookies and preparing for Christmas I applied a coat of primer to the wall, then I applied the texture, then I applied more primer, then I finally put up a coat of paint….December 313 And it turned out like this.  There are still some issues with the wall that the texture didn’t cover.  So if you come over and mention it I’m going to stick a paint brush in your hand and you are going to have to paint another wall for me!

December 314 This wall here I got done painting one day before the whole “let’s rip the wallpaper down” charade.  I think it turned out great.   And how about that fireplace.  Make you want to grab a good book and curl up next to it? Get this, I told my honey that I wanted a electric fireplace and this is what he found for me!  Isn’t he awesome!  I love the fireplace, it looks and feels so real!

The only problem is that touch of white wall over there… ugh.  I might get up right now and start painting!

you make me laugh.

that job was completed quick! We had almost the same color on our living room walls when we lived in Maryland. I love that color. I like the white opposite since it accents its. I think we did 3 walls that color and one white.

Wow Carin...will you ever NOT amaze me? I think if I would of tackled something like that it would have been a good month before company was coming. Then I still would have been a nervous wreck.

It looks AWESOME...I agree with the one wall looking great as an accent wall.

WOW! It would take months of serious arm twisting to get my hubs to do a project like that and you did it a by yourself and right before Christmas, you ROCK! I am going to have to learn to paint on my own this year, LOL!

I really like the new fireplace, I love the stone look. I hope you have a great Christmas!

WOW! You did awesome! It's wonderful! I can so totally relate to doing something like that, I am deranged too. I switched my dining room & living room around the day before Special M. and 2 days before a whole house full of company instead of cooking & cleaning :O
That reminds me, the blog post about that one is waiting..
GO CARIN!! :D

What an awesome job you did!!! The colors look great. As women we always want our homes to look great for the big gathering or holiday, which is why I think we tackle big home improvement projects before the big event. Your project was a big one. Great Job!!!

Dear Crazy Carin,
You remind me of my mother... she is always telling me, "it's only paint." as she grabs a roller and repaints some room of her house, again. It looks great!

You are so brave to tackle a big job just before company.
You are amazing.
I love the color and I too, like the white wall, it gives accent to the rest of it.
That is a cozy looking fireplace.
We could have use it here during our blizzard.
Thanks for sharing.
Have a Happy New Years

Carin,
I love your paint colors & I totally understand being "deranged" sometimes. I think my husband would describe me that way right now. I need to get everything done!!!! :)
Thanks for sharing your project & don't worry about little blemishes no one ever notices.

Wow, what a project! Well worth it, though! I love the color, reminds me of my parents' place. My landlord decided I needed new windows in my place, the 3 days before Xmas eve! Luckily I was not having company over, but I did not appreciate the disarray around the holidays, LOL!

Congrats. If we hadn't had so many disasters I would probably have done something similar. Ooooh where to start...

I happened by via Barbed Wire & Roses and had to comment on the beautiful color of paint you chose...it's almost exact as what My Man and I painted out living room over the holidays...such an odd coincidence I thought! I love the colors though!
