Our View: 15 Minutes Ago

There is our view from our deck. Of course you are saying "what are we looking at?" It's a flat gray sky. Bad lighting. Nothing spectacular. Well, look closely again.
Yup, there they are. There were hundreds and hundreds of geese that flew right near the house. *shiver* (I think I need some slippers).
-
They were sure talking up a storm up there. Hey, that's what they were probably talking about: A storm. *shiver* (I think I need a sweatshirt).

I talked to my mom yesterday and she said it is snowing up there, quite a bit too. And it's coming this way. *shiver* (I think I need a blanket).

So while these geese fly south for the winter we are still here. Awaiting the propane truck to show up *wiping tears off keyboard*.

You know, all this talk about winter FASTLY approaching has me thinking that I should be just like a bear. Yup, that's it. I'm going back to bed. See you in the spring.

Just what the doctor ordered

It was just what the doctor ordered. Actually, I never did official speak with a doctor. But had I spoken with a doctor about what was ailing me, I'm sure a doctor would have definitely ordered this.
-
How about this: My mom ordered it. Yup she did. And after she ordered it I had to think about it for a bit. And then, low and behold..... I ordered it for myself.
-
WHAT did I order? The answer: TIME. Time to myself, time without any children. I absolutely adore my children (obviously) but I never have anytime without them. Some of you may know the situation and understand. And for everyone else, trust me on this one: I needed TIME to myself. I very rarely take the time but today I took it. I took it and ran.
-
So I set up a time to go golfing with my friend, Jill. This gave me a chance to get out and it gave Jill a break from harvest. (uh, um... uh, I hope I didn't just get you in trouble. Come on, harvest can wait. So what if it is suppose to snow in two days).
-
Another friend watched my two younger boys for me. I cannot tell you how nice this was. Thank you, thank you, thank you, Lisa for watching two crazy boys. Thank you. Oh, did I say thank you? Well then, thank you! Here is me in all my perfect golfing form. If you look real close you can see I'm about to hook that ball way out to the right and nearly hit an antelope on the head. The antelope ran, that's the only reason he didn't get hit.
Here is Jill, showing us how you do it! She is a blast to play with and plays really great. There are no pictures of me on the greens for this reason: I putt past the hole. Go back the other way, past the hole. Then back the other way, past the hole. And so on. So let's just look at Jill and her 30 foot putts. It's just not fair. The two of us getting ready to try to hit some antelope. Um, I mean, the two of us getting ready to try to get it on the green.
I cannot tell you just what today meant to me. I feel so refreshed. I feel like I have more energy. I feel like if I try hard enough I just might actually hit an antelope. I feel like a better mom. I feel like I could putt 20 feet, scratch that, I feel like I could putt 20 inches. I feel like it was an absolute great day.
-
I feel like I need to do it again!

My Baby Love

This little guy is absolutely killing me with those eyes. Oh, those eyes! Everywhere I look his eyes are there. I didn't take too many pictures of him as an infant because his skin was in such bad shape. But now? Now I can't take my eyes off him. Let alone the camera.
These were all taken up in the mountains near us. I was looking for a great place to do a fall shoot. I would say it looks like we found it. Would you agree?
And this one? Now I just need to decide which size to print it out at.

Poncho & Lefty

I was browsing through some music earlier, listening to some Willie, Waylon, Merle... the good ones. I came across a song that made me think back to my high school days. Poncho and Lefty.

When I was in High School I was very involved in FFA. I think it must have been my Junior year that I had veal calves as one of my projects. I had a pair of them that I got from our favorite dairy in the area. We brought them home and thought about what to name them. I finally came up with names to suite them: The first one I named Poncho Veal-a and so I named the other one Lefty to go with. I can fondly remember the smell of milk replacer that I would feed to them. Man I loved those two animals!

Now when Poncho and Lefty come up on my music player maybe you'll think of two cute veal calves instead of two outlaws.

Saturday Fall Drive

Saturday the boys and I went for a drive up to Vedauwoo. We went the back way from our place which means we never pass any type of gas station. Oh, and I should mention I only had a quarter of a tank of gas. I threw in an extra gas can in the event that I should need it.

We took off in search of some great fall foliage and a photo shoot location. There were some beautiful colors and it was just what I needed to drive around in such a relaxing place.

We found a nice little place where the aspens had turned yellow, there were a few large boulders and several large rocks. We did a mini photoshoot and then the boys explored for a bit. Then I put half of the gas can in so I wouldn't have to worry the whole way home.

The boys just had so much fun, we will probably head back again when weather permits so the boys can go hiking up there again.

Sunday Sunsets

I drive past this one room school house ever day to and from home. It is very small and couldn't have schooled too many kids at a time. It is called Capitol Vista School and ran from the years 1919-1936.

Here's a little trivia for you. Lineman and I were actually married in a one room school house. Ah, the memories. Boy I've had to put up with a lot since then. I kid, I kid.

Down at the Dam

A few Saturday's ago we went to the dam near us so the boys could go fishing. Of course after a few casts they would rather just go climb in the hills. So that pretty much left me, Lineman and Little Man watching the fishing poles. And I didn't even go to fish! It was fun though. I saw a ton of tracks while we were there.

Anyone care to leave a comment on what you think some of these tracks are from? You can do it! Just take a few guesses.

It ain't the fall......

Here is a quote from Lineman regarding yesterday's post:

There isn't anything about being a lineman to be afraid of but there are two things that you gotta remember and live by if you wanna do this work.....#1. Gravity stinks#2. It ain't the fall, it is the sudden stop that will get you everytime.

And in the spirit of his funny comment, here is something fo you to watch and maybe laugh at.
One thing I laugh at is the guys name appears to be "Goo". He is doing a pole top rescue. All lineman have to do this to prepare for a real incident. They are timed as well, that's why you'll hear people shouting "Come on, Goo"

And yes, he probably did get hurt. And no, we don't know him.

Heights Anyone?

Lineman sent me these pictures yesterday morning. There is something about watching a lineman climb a pole. It just seems so foreign. So unnatural. So unnerving. So frightening, yet so thrilling. Linemen are different than most people. They can be more than 100 feet in the air with up to 100 pounds of equipment and tools on their body all supported on a two inch piece of steel jabbed into the pole. Comforting? I don't think so. But this is their way of life, they become accustom to it. It becomes natural. Fear is taken away when the job must be completed... and completed safely. As my middle boy and I looked at the pictures that Lineman had e-mailed over to us, I noticed a look on our boys face. That look. It was unmistakable. It was a thrill in his eyes. He caught me looking at him and he grinned. That is when he said it for at least the hundredth time... "I want to be a lineman when I grow up, just like dad".

I believe him too. Later that day we were outside while I stained the fence. I look over and he had found a way to climb to the top of a shed out back.
He walked around up there for about 20 minutes.
Afraid of heights? I don't think so.
A thrill seeker? Probably.
Cut out to be a lineman? Definitely
