Broken

I went into town this morning to get groceries and just as I was leaving to go home the phone rang. It was the principal at my oldest son's school. She explained he had a little accident on the playground and his nose was bleeding and would I mind coming into town. I'm thinking, seriously, you want me to come look at a bloody nose? So I turned around and headed to the school. The principal meets me in the hallway and says "his nose is very swollen and I think it may be broken. He was playing tag on the playground and as he was running he turned and ran right into a bar hitting the bridge of his nose." Okay, I think to myself....

I walk in the office, he pulls the ice of his face and...

YIKES!!!

But I kept my cool. This is the first picture I took with my cell phone, we were at a clinic in the hospital. This was taken about 90 minutes after the accident and the swelling had really gone down at this point. Seriously, the swelling was way worse at the school. It was extending all the way across his cheeks to the middle of the eye.

I called Lineman who had our middle son with him and they came and met us at the hospital. I was so glad that Lineman had gotten home from being on the road. He was gone this week and made it home in the middle of the night last night.
It turns out this poor boys nose is broken in two places. The visiting ENT happened to be in town today and took a look at the x-rays. He said it looked pretty good and he wouldn't need to do anything. I guess we are to just watch it and see if it's straight at the end of 7 days. Then we take him back in if it's not straight. Sorry about the bloody nose but it just keeps bleeding lightly. The doc said don't worry about cleaning it at all until tomorrow, just too tender right now.

We are also keeping an eye on him because he was extremely quiet this evening. Obviously he is hurting but I'm worried about him. We all are.

We suggested he sleep in the recliner tonight. Then his younger brother wanted to sleep with him (they sleep together on bunk beds). So we put our middle son on the couch. Well, then he wanted his dad to be there too. So Lineman is in another recliner sleeping. Then Little Man couldn't sleep so he is finally sleeping in Lineman's arms.

And me, the odd girl out, is blogging away.

But I'm tired and going to bed while all the boys sleep in the living room.

This living with all boys, it's a wild ride!

Oh poor guy. I hope it heals all right.
What is it with boys? My 2 almost 3 year old son's tongue just healed up from him biting it so bad it needed stitches. Ouch!

Oh, ouch! Coming from someone who has had her nose broken before, I am extremely sympathetic... can almost feel it for him. What a day, what a night... Hope you all got some rest.

Ouchy! That does look mighty painful. My husband's nose is crooked from all the times he has broken it, the first time when he was 8 years old falling of schoolground equipment... being a show off... he has broken his nose about 5 times in life...
I really hope your little guy comes through this ok, I can only imagine how sore it must be..

Oh goodness! It's hard to keep calm when you see them all swelled like that. Cade-Man had a handle bar to the eye once and goodness, it was so hard for me not to freak out at the swelling!

I feel so bad for him, that must have hurt so bad, I hope that it heals quickly and that he isn't in too much pain.

I love the sleeping arrangements, so cute that they're all sleeping together like that, even baby!

Ouch!! Your nose looks like it really hurts, Bridger. I hope it heals fine. If not, remember that girls have a thing for crooked noses!!

We have a baptism tomorrow and a farwell picnic for Carolyn and Beth.

I'm sorry little guy. But look at it this way chicks dig a broken nose. Makes you look tough.

I came very close to breaking my nose in basketball practice. It was tender for a long time and it's a little crooked.

TNT's nose is slightly crooked after getting into a bar fight in college. Some drunk cowboy snapped it back into position though. I'm very proud!;)

It's so hard when your little one is hurting. Soon, though, he will be proud of his black & blue look, once the worst is behind him! I'm glad it wasn't worse. Hang in there!

I am so sorry about the little guy's nose. I hope he is feeling better today. Yes, I am finding out that is the life with boys. Bumps, bruises, aches, scratches, pains...it goes on and on. But what a fun ride, eh?

My heart is breaking for Bridge...what a sad, sad face. It so reminds me of when his uncle at about the same age took a line drive in his mouth. I can picture your troop of men sleeping soundly in the living room. What a blessing Lineman was home to help. m-b

Good Morning!
Don't you just love getting that call? I remember getting that call about my oldest. Everyone swore his nose was broke, even the doctors, till they looked at the xray, and it wasn't.
I hope your son feels better soon, and has learned the important lesson of watching where he is going.

OMGosh poor little guy!! I know my comment is late, but I really hope he is feeling better!!!

I really understand how you feel my oldest daughter broke her wrists for the second time at school on the playground almost a month ago. It made me feel better you took pictures of the injury just like I did, I thought I was the only one! lol

Poor, poor sweet boy. I feel so bad for him. That had to hurt so bad. I"m glad it is getting better now and hope it heals up right the first time. I'm so sorry this happened.

Reminds me of the time I tried to jump onto a moving merry go round from all fours (I was being a dog) and split open that flap that connects your gums to the inside of your lip... around 2nd grade. Now that I'm a mom I can imagine how my mom felt coming in to find me like that!
